Simple Steps You Can Take Today To Earn More Trust

Entrepreneur Mastery Lab - Simple Steps You Can Take Today To Earn More Trust

Trust has an incredible return on your time and investment. It has a tangible impact that can catapult a brand and individuals’ success. Perhaps what is most challenging is trust is difficult to build. It’s not complex to figure out, but it is difficult. As they say, trust can take an incredibly long time to earn and only moments to lose. With that in mind, here are some simple steps you can take today to earn more trust with your clients and employees! 6 Methods To Make Sure Your Business Doesn’t Fail Before we discuss our tips, did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you and you can access it right here. We were inspired to write about trust after our conversation with Dr. Toby Travis, founder of TrustEd Consulting. You can listen in to the replay of our conversation on our podcast here, or you can watch it on our Youtube channel! Watch it on our Youtube channel! Watch on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alemoct89ys&t=261s Working for a Fortune 50 employer gave me unique insight into culture and trust at one of the largest institutions in the world. Our specific business accounted for over 20% of the revenue earned by our company and we played an instrumental role in the success of our company. Some of the greatest lessons I learned during my tenure was around trust. How to both earn it and how to lose it. Let’s jump into some easy steps on how to earn and develop trust, right now. 1. Start communicating more People begin to trust when their expectations are met. It’s incredibly hard to meet expectations if you do not communicate what the expectations should be! For most of us, what feels like acceptable communication is probably under communication for our clients and over communication is acceptable. Remember, what seems obvious to you is probably not understood by your clients or your employees unless you outright say it to them. 2. Be consistent Uncertainty kills trust and people love certainty. One of the simplest ways to build trust right now is to start getting more consistent. Find ways you can create a process, system or SOP and implement it for yourself and your team. The consistency will lead to consistent results which will lead to trust. It’s one of the reasons Starbucks is such a successful model! 3. Get more vulnerable Your human and your success is built on selling yourself. People want to see the person behind the business. Vulnerability must be the most authentic, raw and instantly impactful to show the person behind the business. Nobody likes to do it, but everyone else loves to see it. After all, how much do people pay for inside access? It’s a proven business model to instantly start building more trust. The Top 3 Financial Mistakes Small Business Owners and Professionals Make

The Top 3 Financial Mistakes Small Business Owners and Professionals Make

We all make mistakes. Often it’s the best way to learn. The lessons that hit the hardest, stick the longest. Some mistakes we want to avoid when we can. Especially financial mistakes. Here are the top 3 financial mistakes small business owners and professionals make and a quick thought on how to avoid them! We were inspired to write about this after our conversation with Tracey Bissett, founder of Bissett Financial Fitness. You can listen in to the replay of our conversation on our podcast here  or you can watch it on our Youtube channel! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pM8Fv4AExk4 Mistake #1: Not holding themselves accountable on their financials  Ever heard of a camel sticking it’s head in the sand? The saying sums up a behavior that’s all too common for people, we don’t want to know what we don’t want to know. Our financials, especially, are easy to avoid. It’s almost like saying, I can’t be sick if I don’t realize I’m sick…well guess what? You’re still sick! Understanding our financials are an extremely important undertaking. It doesn’t mean you have to do it on your own but you need to understand the accounting and finances behind your business. Tip #1 – Get a bookkeeper, an accountant or an outsourced CFO to HELP YOU understand your financials and never ever be the camel. Mistake #2: Not pricing their offers profitably Ok, 85% of small business owners Tracey has worked with price their services and offerings low. So low in fact that most end up spending more in time and expenses than they actually net. Ouch. Tip #2 – If you haven’t opened your business yet, get realistic about the time spent, how much you should be paid and the total expenses that go into a sale. That should drive pricing. If you have opened your business and you’re not sure…when 85% are off the mark, chances are you may be too. Find someone like Tracey that can help do a deep dive on pricing! Mistake #3: Not getting access to credit right away Credit takes time to build and the earlier you start the easier it will be to get credit. Tip #3 – You can often personally guarantee a business loan or credit card early on. Remember, banks love to lend money when you don’t need it and are notorious for not being available when you do. Set up credit early to protect against the need for it later! What other mistakes have you or other business owners you know made? Did you know! We love answering your questions from the lab. The Best Ways To Recover From Burnout Quickly

Entrepreneur Mastery Lab - The Best Ways To Recover From Burnout Quickly

75% of people admit to experiencing burnout. What most people don’t know is that recovery from burnout can last from 11 weeks to YEARS. If that’s the case it’s probably best to avoid burnout if possible and yet, if 3 out of 4 of us experience it, that may not be a real option. Today we look at the best ways to recover from burnout quickly so that we can get over it quickly and minimize the impact of burnout in our lives. Ok, if burnout feels almost inevitable it’s time to deal with reducing the impact. Our focus here is to offer some of the most scientifically proven and effective ways to shorten the length of time it takes to recover from burnout. 1. Get outside Studies have consistently shown that getting outside reduces physical and psychological stress levels. If we’re burnt out, we should spend some time in nature. Generally, the more remote the better. 2. Exercise Exercise reduces stress levels and helps us get in a better frame of mind. This is essential for getting past burnout. By being smart and working out outdoors we can reduce stress even more. 3. Remember our why and be more impactful Getting back to why we got started in the first place will help you hit reset and recall the positive reasons you are working towards something. It will also help you recall the impact your work makes and help you focus in again on the impact. By creating impact, we recognize that we do as much for others as we do for ourselves. This is a tremendous way to help recover from burnout faster. This blog is inspired by our most recent BBB Live featuring special guest, Susan Block. 3 Surefire Hacks To Boost Your Productivity

Entrepreneur Mastery Lab

Being busy doesn’t mean being productive. Too often we are all guilty of spending our time always in motion. We can call it the grind, the hustle, whatever we want, but unfortunately, calling it by a trendy name doesn’t mean that being busy is the same as being productive. If you’re looking for ways to stop being busy and start being productive here are 3 surefire hacks to boost your productivity, immediately! 70% of Entrepreneurs fail Before we discuss our tips, did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you and you can access it right here. 3 easy to implement hacks for productivity  1. Prioritize and Eliminate Distractions When we drill down to the most important things to do every day, are we doing them? Are we consistent with them? Do we do them with a focus, integrity and passion to do them as a well as possible. Many people aren’t sure, which is a sure sign that we can get better at prioritizing. Prioritizing means getting rid of the garbage. Garbage in, garbage out. Take out the trash and be intentional with our time. Time is our most valuable asset. While we are at it, eliminate the pesky distractions that derail us from putting our focus on where it matters most! 2. Outsource We probably shouldn’t be doing that. What’s that? It’s different for each of us, but for each of us there is an intersection between talent and passion and that is where it’s often best for us to spend our time. It’s where we find ‘flow’ and the ability to deeply focus and be productive. For all the rest? Time to find someone else to hand it off to. Someone who has a talent and passion for the things you do not. 3. Automate If it can be made into a system, it is often best for us to do just that. Automation clears out our schedule from all the tasks that leech our time. Time spends can suck away your time, your focus, and your energy. Automate when and where you can to truly boost your productivity Our tips are inspired by our recent quick hit podcast, a 7 minute down and dirty dive into 3 easy to implement hacks for productivity. You can listen in to our podcast here.  You can also check out our podcast on our Youtube channel right here! Tips to create a positive culture

Entrepreneur Mastery Lab - Tips to create a positive culture

I’ve never met a business owner that wanted to lead a poor or weak team culture. Yet so many businesses are run with cultures that are far from effective. A bad culture can lead to turnover, HR nightmares, lost revenue, and the demise of a business. With that in mind we thought we’d drop you some tips to create a positive team culture that you can implement right now! Before we discuss our tips, did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you and you can access it right here.   To create a positive culture we need to define it first!  Step 1: Define what a positive culture means to you. What does it look like? How does it respond to common challenges and business struggles? How does it handle adversity? How does it celebrate? How does it lift up team members? By defining a positive culture you can start to identify what if anything about your current culture you’d like to change. Step 2: Make it about those that you serve.  In business we serve our clients/customers, our employees, our shareholders and then, of course, ourselves. Too often we see business owners focus only on serving one stakeholder. Make sure to take a close look at your culture and try to identify if you fall short of serving any of your stakeholders. If you do, you have a place where you can quickly shift the culture more positively. Having trouble identifying this? If all else fails, make sure you are a customer first oriented business followed very closely by employees as this will solve many business issues. Step 3: Set expectations and hold YOURSELF to them. It’s not easy to set and hold expectations for others and it’s even harder to set and hold them for ourselves. Lead by example, take ownership and accountability for all aspects of your business and never expect an employee or team member to do something you yourself would not. Lead by example and lead with personal accountability. Our tips were inspired by our recent podcast with Guillaume Viatr of MetaHelm, where we discuss strategic narrative and the impact on culture! How To Build A Flexible Schedule For Maximum Performance

Entrepreneur Mastery Lab - Flexible Schedule

Great news, you control your day!  Or do you?  Chances are if you’re an entrepreneur or service based professional you’ve developed a calendar that works for you.  Mostly.  You may have also picked up some habits that harm you more than they help.   Here are a few tips to help you build a schedule with flexibility so you can maximize your performance all day, every day. Before we discuss our tips, did you know that 70% of businesses will fail?  We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you!  It’s our free gift to you, you can access it right here. Secret 1 – Be more self aware Half of the battle with managing our calendars is recognizing how long it takes us to accomplish something. We’re typically pretty bad at this and deal with performance optimism. It’s the idea that we believe can get more done faster than we actually can. Do yourself a favor. If you want more flexibility in your schedule than add a little extra time for whatever is on your calendar. 60 minute meeting, better make it 70 minutes on the calendar. It’s amazing how much flexibility this will build and additional performance we can get out of the day. Secret 2 – Respect your time and everyone else’s If we try to schedule every minute of every day out we create an environment that will be break under stress. What do we mean by that? Well, life happens and to leave no time for life happening is, in our opinion, a very common and very costly mistake we see professionals make all the time. Plan for things to go wrong and we can find ourselves prepared for this and better able to handle it. Leave no room for life to happen and we all know how that can feel. Like a house of cards teetering and then crashing down. Secret 3 – Set aside time for yourself We aren’t robots, as much as we’d like to be sometimes. We need rest, we need little moments to recuperate. There was a study done on internal salespeople to see who performed the best. The highest performers were the smokers. No, nicotine doesn’t make better salespeople. But wouldn’t you know it, those smokers took a 5-minute break for themselves every 60-90 minutes. That few minutes for ourselves can make an enormous difference in our performance the other 55 or 85 minutes that follows. If we want to have a flexible schedule that allows for maximum performance this is a great way to ensure we can get it done all day long. 5 Essential Tips To Build A Successful Community

Building a successful community isn’t always easy.  Here are 5 essential tips to build a successful community you won’t want to skip over! Before we discuss our tips, did you know that 70% of businesses will fail?  We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you!  It’s our free gift to you you can access it right here. 1. Know who you want   Believe it or not, building a community means being as intentional about who we DON’T let in as who we do let in. Just grabbing anyone to build a community hurts more than it helps. Sure numbers and volume look good but if that person doesn’t share the values, doesn’t intend to be a part of the community and isn’t active, they end up taking more than they give.  2. Give  If we want to build a community, it’s important to understand that we all need to lead by example. Whatever the binding elements of your community are, we must be deliberate and we must be front in center showing everyone in the community that we embrace the shared values of the group. 3. Know your community  People join a community because they have a shared belief or value system. We all want to identify with other people, and we want to be accepted. To make sure we have a successful community make sure to know what is important for the community to share. Those common threads are what will form unbreakable bonds in a group!   4. Let people go Life isn’t static and we all change. What’s important to us today may not be as important to us tomorrow. As important as it is to bring people into a community it’s just as important to let people go. If someone isn’t a good for the community you’re developing, wish them the best and help them move on to someplace that they want to be. 5. Evolve Communities will change over time. Whenever we get a large group of people together, it’s natural for the groupthink to lead a community to a different place from where it started. By keeping a close eye on our communities, we can identify when we see shifts and evolutions happening. Instead of fighting a change, consider if it’s to the communities benefit first. If it is then we have an opportunity to help pave the road for a successful shift in our communities! 3 Viral Tips to Master Post Covid, In Person Networking

Entrepreneur Mastery Lab - Post Covid In Person Networking

Congratulations! You’re ready to get back out there, things are opening back up and it’s time to dust off the shoes and get back to in person networking. There’s only one problem. The rules have changed! Here are 3 Viral tips you can use to master networking in a post-covid world! To catch this blog and more on audio or video you can check out our most recent podcast here where we add some color and detail to our tips below! If you prefer you can also check it out on our Youtube channel right here! 1. Be Prepared   There’s more to think about today than in the past. Our first tip is simple but effective, and will protect you against getting shut out or shut down for in person events. Some of the best ways to be prepared are to have a copy of your vaccination card handy, carry a mask (ideally, 2) and consider carrying a travel size purell or anti-bacterial wipes with you. A little preparation will bring you a LONG way when it comes to networking post-covid. 2. Say Hello, the right way   In the past if we showed up to a networking event and introduced ourselves to someone without a handshake….you dropped the ball. This would be even worse than a dead-fish handshake. Today, we need to think twice. Plenty of people were, in the closet, privately, against shaking hands PRE covid. Now that we’ve worked through a pandemic there are a ton of people who have no interest in shaking your hand. It’s in our best interest to ask each other how we’d like to be greeted with a handshake, fist bump, elbow bump or simply a polite hello. Following this one tip will help make us all more comfortable together and indicate a sign of respect for the person we’re meeting. 3. Be Strategic   One of our favorite aspects of networking post covid is the amount of data we have ahead of time. Nowadays it’s tough to find a networking event that doesn’t have a meet up, social media event, RSVP list, etc. Today more than ever we can find out ahead of time who is going to an event and who is likely to be there. It means we can be more strategic in our goals, our activity and the type of person we want to see at a networking event. Shotgun blast networking isn’t nearly as effective as intentional networking where we walk away with a strong introduction to just a couple to a handful of people that can help us achieve our goals. Be strategic and be more effective! Entrepreneur Mastery Lab We love sharing tips like these in our Entrepreneur Mastery Lab private community. Be Transparent and Be Relatable

Entrepreneur Mastery Lab

We all matter. We all want to be heard. Every one of us has a different perspective from everyone else. How do we make sure that our message is being heard? One of the best ways to be heard is to be transparent and be relatable. Before we discuss how to be relatable, did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you you can access it right here. In our most recent podcast, we chatted PR and personal branding with Liana Zavo of ZavoMedia Group. One of the top takeaways from our conversation is that people want to relate. They want to identify with you and they want you to be open with them. Many business owners struggle with finding their voice and then once they have found their voice, finding ears to listen to it! If you’d like to learn how to have more people hear you, you’ll want to listen in to our conversation with Liana. Liana went from a single mom, college drop out to CEO of a global PR firm and a large part of her story focuses on transparency and relatability! You can listen to the episode here. In The Entrepreneur Mastery Lab community, we have tremendous professionals like Liana available to connect with directly. If you struggle with branding, finding your voice or getting your message in front of others you’ll want to get involved with our group. To join our awesome community of rockstars like yourself, request access here! Best of all, it’s free! As business owners and professionals, it’s often difficult to be transparent. After all, being vulnerable is scary. When you find yourself in this struggle, ask yourself what is more scary for your prospects and clients. Is it more scary for your clients and prospects to work with someone that is willing to fully put themselves out there, or is it more scary for your clients and prospects to guess about what you’re truly like? The thing is, people are smart. They know you’re not perfect. They know you have a past. Heck, they can go google it in a matter of minutes and learn all about your background if they’d like to. The hard and simple truth is you can be up front with people from the get-go and you can be honest and you can be relatable, or you can choose not to be. But if you look at it from your clients and prospects perspectives, chances are you’ll recognize that you’re letting your own fear take center stage of addressing a fear of your clients and prospects. Putting yourself in front of the people you serve is almost always a mistake and will almost certainly hurt you more than it helps. If you’d like to earn the trust of your clients and prospects you need to be transparent and you need to be relatable. The next time you struggle with this, remind yourself that it’s not about you, it’s about the people you serve. What is most important to them? It might just help you take that extra step to be even more transparent and relatable. When you do that, you’ll start getting heard even more! If you’re working on being heard and relatable, we can help! Our unique 2 on 1 coaching marries the expertise of a Doctor of Psychology and mindset coach with the business savvy of a former Fortune 50 external regional sales manager. Have some fun or suffer the consequences

As business owners and professionals, it’s quite common to lean towards formality. Having a professional brand, is, if nothing else, professional. It’s also easier than having a likeable brand. But what if I told you that you need to have some fun or you’ll suffer the consequences? Before the fun starts, did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you you can access it right here. In the war between likeability and professionalism businesses and professionals typically fall into one of the two camps. In my experience the formal camp of consistent professionalism is the most common to adopt into a business or profession. This is because we can follow a template. Formality, professionalism, and all the social cues that go with it are fairly easily recognizable and implementable. There isn’t much ‘risk’ in being formal. Except, maybe there is. At some point in our lives many of us start losing the ability to have fun. This peaks around 45 years of age but can start much earlier for people. Whether you’re a professional/business owner or a consumer, you’re equally impacted. And having fun matters. Having fun preserves health, increases creativity, reduces stress and leads to a better memory! Companies and people have started to take notice too… In our most recent podcast, we chatted about gamification with Eddie Jimenez of 1Huddle. Gamification requires us to have some fun. It works really well too! If you’re like most people we know, chances are you’d like to be able to be professional, run a great business and have some fun. It’s a safe bet you’d also like your client experience to mirror your own as well. An experience that is both professional AND enjoyable. It’s one of the reasons we really enjoyed our conversation around gamification. If you’d like to learn more about gamification and having fun you can listen to this podcast episode right here! Being too formal carries risk when you fail to meet your expectations of formality. Sooner or later all businesses do. All business are run by people and sooner or later people will screw up. We’re not robots. When that screw up happens and you only have a formal and professional brand, it hurts! It turns out people and consumers are much more forgiving when you have a brand that is likeable and more authentic. A brand that loosens up the tie and unbuttons the top button of the shirt. It doesn’t mean that consumers don’t expect professionalism, it just means that having some fun in your business and with your clients can go a long way to mitigate some risk.Maybe most importantly, business owners and professionals run a high risk of burnout, unhealthy levels of stress and long running anxiety. Building some fun into your business can protect your brand, enhance your consumer experience, and provide you with some substantial personal benefits too!
