Making The Most of a Joint Venture

Making The Most of a Joint Venture

When we collaborate or partner with other professionals, we do it because we believe that it will provide us something that we can’t achieve by working on our own. Belief by itself won’t get us improved result. If we want to really make the most out of a joint venture (JV), there are some actions we need to take to control the outcome and experience. In our blog below we discuss 3 things you can do to make the most out of a joint venture. Set Responsibilities Up Front If you want to be successful with a joint venture, you need to split responsibilities and make sure that all parties are accountable for their portion of the work. Joint ventures can work even when you fail to set responsibilities up front, but ultimately, they’ll fall far short of what they could have been if everyone is crystal clear up front on what they need to do. Nobody wants to relive being the kid doing all the work for the project and splitting half the credit. Make Sure The JV’s are Complementary While there’s nothing wrong with working along side someone that does the same thing as you, it doesn’t make nearly as much sense as finding a partner that complements the work that you do. Whether it’s bringing in an audience when yours is weak or establishing strong credibility as you build your own authority, it’s going to make a much greater difference in positive results to work with a complementary business. Address Problems Head On Open communication is one of the most important aspects to have a successful joint venture. Besides setting of responsibilities we need to make sure we address friction with partners head on, problem solve together and express gratitude when possible. Ultimately, any partnership requires two or more people and businesses to work together and the best results always come from active communication and strong EQ. 3 Reasons to Use Acting in Business

Entrepreneur Mastery Lab

We hear a lot about authenticity, and we are big believers in being yourself. However, there are instances where we need to act, or play a role in our business to be successful. That is not just, ok, we should embrace it! Here are 3 great reasons to use acting in business! Reason 1: You need to build a culture Great businesses care about their employees not just their customers. For a business to have a strong and healthy team, it needs a culture and value system that the employees can get behind. Sometimes when a business leader needs to develop a culture, they need to take a leadership role and act in line with the community values even if it’s not in line with the leaders wants. This is a great example of needing to take on the role of leader and act in a way consistent with company values and culture. Reason 2: It’s about everyone else Great leaders recognize that having a customer centric business is essential to success. We need to be able to meet customer needs and make life easier on our customers. Sometimes that means we need to act in a way that disarms our customers. Acting in this way is providing a service for your customers since you’re helping them make a decision that solves their problems. The platinum rule is to treat others the way they want to be treated, not the way you want to treat them. Reason 3: Full honesty may cause friction We are strong believers in honesty. However, we also believe strongly in not always talking. Sometimes the right decision is to say nothing at all or to guard our words. Blunt honesty is a great virtue but it’s something few people respond to well. In instances where a little tact and compassion can go a long way, it’s often in our best interest to act if we’re debating between blunt criticism and/or honesty and a more compassionate response. What it means to be courageous in business

Entrepreneur Mastery Lab - Couragew

When you hear courage, you probably don’t immediately think about business. You may think of police officers and heroism, or service members overseas, firefighters from 9/11 but you aren’t too likely to think of business leaders. Yet everyday professionals and business leaders exhibit courage in business. What it means to be courageous in business is to develop and display the skill sets of risk/reward decision making, to admit you are without all the answers and to stand up for what is right. 6 Methods To Make Sure Your Business Doesn’t Fail Stay strong! Did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you and you can access it right here. Courage Through Decision Making Taking calculated risks in business means to identify and take action on potential failures. It also means to weigh the risk of that failure with the reward of success. Great business leaders display strong risk adjusted decision making and continue to push the boundaries of what their business and they are capable of. This is a skill best developed through experience, mentorship and wisdom. The Courage to Not Know As business grows more complex our ability to be an expert in all aspects hits a wall. Our willingness to openly admit our own limits of knowledge is an essential skill for professionals and business owners today. Better to admit lack of knowledge and ignorance than pretend to know what we do not. The Courage of Standing up for What Is Right It’s easy as professionals and business owners to sacrifice integrity and ethics in the pursuit of business. After all, plenty of people and businesses are willing to look the other way or blatantly break the rules if they think they can get away with it. Standing up for what is right takes courage. It takes a willingness to accept losses that otherwise might not be taken. It also leads to a culture of excellence that will be unmatched by any other company or professional that is willing to compromise their ethics and integrity. Is courage in business important to you? How to Deal With Uncertainty

Uncertainty is always going to be there. At times we don’t even notice it, at other times it’s impossible to ignore. Dealing with uncertainty can be challenging for a number of reasons, but it’s important to make sure we are prepared so when uncertainty does pop up, we don’t allow it to throw us off track. In this blog we’ll offer some wisdom on some of the best ways to deal with uncertainty to minimize it’s impact. 6 Methods To Make Sure Your Business Doesn’t Fail Hold on! Did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you and you can access it right here. Uncertainty Hack #1 Step back from what’s causing the uncertainty. Perspective is a great way to remove ourselves from emotional responses and when we deal with uncertainty we are often dealing with our own, or others emotions. Step back, create perspective and you’ll often find that the uncertainty is not necessarily as impactful as you were worried it would be. Uncertainty Hack #2 Plan for the uncertainty. Plan for the worst so that the worst isn’t as bad as it could be. When we have a plan in place for uncertainty it allows us to have a response ready to go. Being able to take action during uncertainty is a fantastic way to minimize the impact of uncertainty in our lives and our business. Uncertainty Hack #3 Know your coping strategies. We all cope with things differently. When uncertainty starts to creep up it may be time to implement one of your coping strategies. This could be self-care, working out, meditation, vacation, therapy or any number of outlets. Find what works best for you and don’t delay. Are you struggling with uncertainty? Managing behavior virtually

Managing behavior virtually

Managing behavior is one of the primary skill sets a service based professional and entrepreneur must become scary good at. Between managing our own behavior and reactions and managing our clients it is an essential skill to develop and continuously hone, or, as we like to say, sharpen the ax. Managing behavior can be even more difficult when we are virtual since it’s much harder to relay body language and read other’s body language. Here are some of the top tips we have for managing behavior virtually. Tip 1 Managing behavior online requires focus and attention. It’s best if both parties on any virtual engagement are able and willing to silence some common distractors. Make sure you set your phone to focus mode, silence notifications from your email and other browsers (close them if you must) and ask that whomever you’re meeting with do the same. Setting the stage up front to reduce distractions will make it much easier to manage behavior when virtual. Tip 2 Ask twice respond once! The old adage goes measure twice, cut once and it is even more important when virtual. Since we are much more limited in our ability to read body language online it becomes crucial to make sure what is being said is what is meant to be communicated and that what is being heard is what was actually said. Check in with people even more regularly than you would while virtual will help make sure the communication between yourself and the other party is as effective as possible. Tip 3 Some things do not translate online. There are certain conversations and topics that are highly sensitive in nature. Some of these conversations simply do not play well online and if the goal is to manage reactions, they should not take place virtually if you have any control over it. It’s like having a conversation when driving a car. If you need to make eye contact for that conversation, the car is an awful place to chat. You can still do it, but be prepared for less than ideal results. The same goes for online conversations. Some are just better in person. Do you need to get better virtually? How to successfully prospect on LinkedIn

Entrepreneur Mastery Lab - How to successfully prospect on LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a fantastic tool to prospect as a B2B professional or entrepreneur. Not only does LinkedIn provide a deep blue ocean of professionals, it’s expected that you’ll be on there for professional purposes. Shockingly enough, few professionals use LinkedIn to it’s full potential and many of us are guilty of accepting connections without bothering to engage or worse, sending them out with no follow up plan in place. In this blog we’ll cover some actionable ideas to make sure you’re successfully prospecting on LinkedIn. 6 Methods To Make Sure Your Business Doesn’t Fail Before we go any further, did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you and you can access it right here. So, you want to be more effective on LinkedIn? It starts with being intentional. LinkedIn is a great way to meet people and prospects, but we shouldn’t be wasting our time or anyone else’s. We don’t want to connect with people, just because. We shouldn’t think about using LinkedIn as a dating site or as a social platform. Instead, consider what it would look like if we were more intentional on LinkedIn. What would happen if a page, event, post, or connection does not further our goals and we chose not to like, follow, or connect. What would our experience be like if we never accepted random connections and never sent out random connections? It would change, dramatically. To get the most from LinkedIn think of it like this: specificity is a necessity. Want LinkedIn to work better for you? Set expectations up front. Nobody likes uncertainty. It’s a universal for people out there. Uncertainty is not fun. It’s why setting expectations up front is so important. When you reach out to people or they reach out to you, how thoughtful are you about setting expectations? If you aren’t, we recommend trying to be more deliberate with your expectations. For example, if you’re connecting with someone that you have identified as a prospect, let them know up front to eliminate uncertainty and anxiety. It’ll help you find your ideal prospects in a time of need, much faster and allow them to triage whether you’re a good fit, right now, as well! Need to level up your LinkedIn game? Ask permission Have you been bombarded by event invitations lately? Has someone asked you to like or follow their page or subscribe to your newsletter? Has anyone actually reached out to you directly with a note, message, text or call to let you know they were inviting you to something and to make sure it was relevant? If you have experience this you’ll probably understand why we believe asking permission needs to be considered as part of elite LinkedIn habits. Blanket requests do not work well. If anything you’ll grow a list of subscribers and followers that are not actually interested in what you do. In other words, all you’ll develop is a dead asset. By asking permission ahead of time you’ll earn the right people and seriously start to develop some LinkedIn mojo. Do you need help with prospecting? 3 Tricks to Hosting an Amazing Event

Entrepreneur Mastery Lab - 3 Tricks to Hosting an Amazing Event

It can be great to go to an event and meet wonderful people, network, and find ways to grow your business. Some of the best relationships can be built this way, just ask many of our podcast guests how we connected originally! Other times events can fall short. Given time most professionals will consider hosting their own events. If you’re at this point and you want to do it right, we have 3 tricks that will help you host an amazing event! 6 Methods To Make Sure Your Business Doesn’t Fail Before we discuss our tips, did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you and you can access it right here. #1 Give more lead time than you think you need Events have a way of coming on fast. If you think you need 3 weeks to get an event together, plan on 5-6. Optimism bias is very real and very dangerous when you’re trying to host an event. Don’t get caught unprepared for all the moving pieces and coordination involved with event hosting. #2 You need to manage the venue We’d love to say that venues have their ducks in a row when it comes to event hosting, but you’d be surprised by how often venues drop the ball before or during events.  Do not assume the venue will be a rockstar at event management.  Take ownership of this or face the consequences. #3 Have a follow up plan Do you know the worst thing you can do when it comes to running an event? 100% not having a follow up plan. The event is being held for a reason and if you want to make the most of your time energy and resources you need to have a thoughtful and ready to roll follow up plan. Do this and even small events can have tremendous results! Do you need help with growing your business through events? Let us know in our private Facebook community, the EML! You can join here! How to be authentic without being cancelled

How to be authentic without being cancelled

Cancel culture is very real and can be very dangerous. No one is immune to the court of public opinion and everyone out there faces a risk of censorship or, worse, full on cancelling anytime they put themselves out there. It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be authentic and shouldn’t voice our opinion, but there is absolutely a time and a place to be authentic. Here are 3 tips on how to be authentic without being cancelled. 6 Methods To Make Sure Your Business Doesn’t Fail Before we address cancel culture, did you know we have a free giveaway for you? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you and you can access it right here. #1 Pick your battles wisely It’s great that you want to be authentic but being authentic doesn’t mean sharing anything and everything you think and/or feel. It’s important to recognize what you really stand for and are willing to put yourself out there for. Since cancel culture is real, we you only take full on public stands on the beliefs that are most important to you. #2 Know your audience Having a strong opinion is almost certainly going to warm you up to certain people and turn you off to others. Make sure you know who your audience is and don’t try to speak to an audience that doesn’t share a common belief or common ground. #3 Be empathetic A lot of people struggle with cancel culture because they can’t empathize with someone else’s stance or opinion. If you do face scrutiny for what you said, it’s important to take time to understand why someone is feeling the way they are and to take ownership of your word choice. Perhaps what you communicated is not what you said. Not only do you need to be prepared to take ownership of that you also need to acknowledge the other view. Sales is a numbers game!

Sales is a numbers game!

Salespeople are made they aren’t born. Studies have suggested that less than 1 out of 10 people are naturally born salespeople. The rest of us, we are taught, we learn, we grow and we build ourselves into salespeople. What, you’re not a salesperson you say? The numbers disagree. 43% of EVERYONE’S work is sales related, no matter how far away from the sales process you think you are. Today we’re going to look at what numbers really matter to be great at sales! 6 Methods To Make Sure Your Business Doesn’t Fail Before we dial in the numbers around sales, did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you and you can access it right here. The first sales number that matters How much are you investing in yourself? This is probably not what you’re thinking but it’s a fundamental misunderstanding around sales. Salespeople don’t need a college degree, they don’t need experience. Heck, most entry level jobs are sales related. Yet sales are the key to a business’s success. Most of us have no formal education in sales, so I’ll ask it another way. If you went to school and spent tens of thousands of dollars to become technically qualified to do something, how much have you invested in your sales development? $0? $1,000? $10,000? This is the first number that matters. Treat sales like any other profession and start investing in yourself! The second sales number that matters The number of no’s you get! It’s not the number of Yes’s that you get. It’s the number of No’s. Rejection is real in sales so we need to do whatever we can to turn something deflating into something exciting. How many no’s does it take to get to a yes. Focus on that and you’ll find yourself much more successful at navigating the psychological toll of being in sales! That’s it. When it comes to sales, everyone will have a different number to hit. Everyone has a different expectation of what they want to accomplish and what they need to get done. For some of us it’ll focus on how many relationships do you speak to. For others, how many leads did you develop and how many texts did you send. For others still, how many people clicked on our lead magnets or ads. Every other number will be unique to your business or profession.
