Credibility trust is vital for establishing confidence and exuding reliability. Benevolence Trust This is the will-do trust. It’s the trust that you’ll do right by somebody and make decisions that are in the best interest of someone else. Benevolence trust is essential for creating emotional bonds and connections with others. It’s crucial in collaborating with others. Communication Tips to Foster Trust 1. Practice Active Listening People are more likely to trust you when they feel that you really understand them and that they are being heard. By practicing active listening and engaging with a speaker you can affirm their belief that you’re actually listening to them instead of preparing your responses. Be Authentic We want to know that people are being honest and one of the easiest ways to establish that with communication is to simply be authentic. People can tell when you’re being yourself and it helps develop trust very quickly. It also shows a willingness to be vulnerable which is often a great way to show someone that you trust them! Trust is built over time and consistency and reliability are major factors when people judge their trust of someone else. To establish trust, long-term, be consistent and you’ll find this will help develop stronger and more lasting relationships. Be especially careful in your communication that you are being up front with others. People are highly aware of manipulation or purposeful deception or lack of communication. Between lack of transparency, inconsistency, and breaches of confidence you can quickly erode or completely lose any trust you have developed with others. How do you communicate trust? Why It’s Important to Address Failure Directly

Failure is inevitable and it’s not a bad thing. We look at failure as a negative and yet, in the grand experiment that is life and business, failure is an absolute certainty. Everyone experiences failure and it’s often the best learning experience for us. Failure can be the best teacher and should be embraced. In this blog we’ll discuss why it’s so important to address failure directly. Don’t fail to check out our free giveaway for you! It’s our free gift to you. Access it here! Failure Does Not Mean Fault Failure and fault are two different things that we commonly lump together. Oh, something failed so whomever was responsible for that failure must be at fault. Yet that is rarely the case. If there is a failure, the statistics suggest that rarely is any single individual at fault (think less than 10% of the time). Failure is an opportunity to fix something broken, not an opportunity to assign blame and fault. Failure Helps Us Get Better There are different types of failures and many of them deal with uncertainty and experimentation. In these instances, our failures help us correct to more predictable outcomes. In other words, these failures drive innovation. If the failure is a result of effort to improve, it can absolutely be a positive. It’s All About Perception People will trust you more if you’re open about your failures. Everyone knows we’re going to have them from time to time, and it’s about how you deal with them that is most important. By addressing failures head-on we can emphasize to anyone paying attention that we’re aware of the failure, will put energy and time into correcting for them in the future and that will help develop more trust than simply pretending we are perfect! Our specific business accounted for over 20% of the revenue earned by our company and we played an instrumental role in the success of our company. Some of the greatest lessons I learned during my tenure was around trust. How to both earn it and how to lose it. Let’s jump into some easy steps on how to earn and develop trust, right now. 1. Start communicating more People begin to trust when their expectations are met. It’s incredibly hard to meet expectations if you do not communicate what the expectations should be! For most of us, what feels like acceptable communication is probably under communication for our clients and over communication is acceptable. Remember, what seems obvious to you is probably not understood by your clients or your employees unless you outright say it to them. 2. Be consistent Uncertainty kills trust and people love certainty. One of the simplest ways to build trust right now is to start getting more consistent. Find ways you can create a process, system or SOP and implement it for yourself and your team. The consistency will lead to consistent results which will lead to trust. People want to see the person behind the business. Vulnerability must be the most authentic, raw and instantly impactful to show the person behind the business. Nobody likes to do it, but everyone else loves to see it. After all, how much do people pay for inside access? It’s a proven business model to instantly start building more trust. The Trust Fail – The 3 fastest ways to lose trust

Trust. It takes time to develop and no time at all to lose. It’s also one of the most important ingredients for any business or individual to achieve success. No trust and a business will suffer, guaranteed. We’ve had the opportunity to see a number of companies lose the trust of their clients and end users. Whether it’s Facebook and the other social media companies manipulating our feeds, or more industrial companies like Volkswagen lying about their emissions. Interestingly enough, neither of these companies have failed from lack of trust but they have been hampered, they have lost revenue and they have had to spend incredible sums of money to protect their brand and begin to rebuild trust. While larger businesses can sometimes afford to slip up, that’s not as realistic for many small businesses that live and die by their reputation and the trust they have with the people they serve. Here are 3 of the most common ways businesses LOSE trust and how to avoid doing it yourself. 1. Setting Poor Expectations It’s ok for results to turn out differently than you expected in business. Not everything will happen as you’ve intended, life does have a habit of surprising us and that happens in business too. The key problem with setting poor expectations is it throws into question your competency and ability to follow through on your promises. No amount of guarantees or money back can eliminate this risk. To avoid this loss of trust, maintain constant communication with your clients so you can reset expaectations as needed. 2. No Accountability We’ve all heard excuses from people and businesses before. They are tired, pretty lame and we don’t buy it for a second. Things will go wrong and when it’s something in your domain you need to own it. If it’s your company, your product, your brand, it’s on you to own the bad with the good. Failing to take ownership for mistakes and not holding yourself and your business accountable is a surefire way to lose trust. This is an easy one to fix. If it’s on your watch, it’s on your watch. Own it, don’t offer excuses and make a true promise to be more conscientious about preventing the same thing from happening again. Use it as an opportunity to get better in the process for all of the people you serve. 3. Forcing a fit If you’re in business or a service based professional you have something that someone wants or needs. Understanding exactly who your ideal client is incredibly important to building a successful business of any sort. Working with the wrong clients is a proven way to put yourself and whomever is unlucky enough to be working with you into a bad situation. In this instance, it’s always best to stick to your sweet spot. Serve the clients you serve best and be very careful about who you choose to do business with. One of the fastest ways to lose trust is to take on a client or business that isn’t a good fit. To avoid this make sure that you’re willing to turn down the clients and the business that is not right for you. You can do this by making your value proposition to your clients and prospects incredibly clear. You can also make sure you vet people OUT from purchasing your products or services to ensure you have a good marriage between your services and the people using them!
