The best personality traits for networking

Anyone can be a great networker. Regardless of whether you consider yourself an outgoing person or not, oftentimes the most effective people at networking aren’t natural extroverts or anything along those lines. Instead the best networkers show up at events with specific personality traits that they emphasize for the occasion. In this blog we’ll discuss the best personality traits for networking and we promise you these are traits you can develop with intention and practice! Want to know why people fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you. Access it here! Let’s take a look at what we consider the most important personality traits for networking. Confidence Confidence is critical to bring to any networking event. Most people are uncomfortable being in large groups of strangers. It makes us feel vulnerable and unsafe. Showing up to a networking event and exhibiting confidence is a surefire way to attract people to you that are feeling less confident and will seriously up your networking game. Establish confidence early by visualizing yourself having success at the networking event. Self-Awareness Many of us lack self-awareness and that can really hurt us at networking events. Self-awareness is not just about being aware of ourselves and our own feelings, it’s also about being aware of how others are perceiving us. If you want to display confidence and approachability it is crucial to be highly self-aware of how you’re showing up to other people. Get better at self-awareness by learning to recognize how people respond to different types of body language and communication. Active Listening The best personality trait for networking? Hard to say because any of the three of these listed are gold when it comes to excelling at networking. There is, however, a strong argument to be made that active listening is more important than any other personality trait when it comes to networking. Active listening means it’s not about you or your needs, it’s about really hearing the person in front of you. Do you know who is most likely to want to help you? The people that feel heard. So go out and hear them! To practice active listening make sure you focus on what someone is saying and not what you want to say. Pay attention, ask clarifying questions and really tune into the meaning behinds someone’s words.  What traits do you believe are most important for networking? From Reactive to Proactive: Cultivating Intention

From Reactive to Proactive: Cultivating Intention

Acting with intention is extremely important to professionals and leaders and there are tremendous benefits that derive from being intentional. Intention comes with better decision making and discernment of opportunities, enhanced productivity, and improved focus. On the flip side, when we start to act without intention, we end up struggling with challenges like being reactive and feeling under increased pressure, wrestling with overwhelm and losing out on game-changing opportunities. In this blog we’ll discuss how we can go from being reactive to proactive and cultivate intention for ourselves and our teams. Be intentional with your business! We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you Access it here! Let’s look at some practical strategies for cultivating intention in our day-to-day. 1. Set a long-term plan Long term plans are essential if we want to cultivate intention in our daily lives. It’s also important to break down the long-term plan into manageable decisions and goals that we can achieve daily. Small, manageable goals will help us act with great intention and keep ourselves pointed to the true north of our long-term plan. Also read: The Problems with Short Term Thinking and Why We Need a Long Term Perspective 2. Be mindful There are so many benefits that come from being mindful. One of the greatest must be the ability to control our immediate reactions to events as they unfold. The very best professionals and leaders have adopted and become excellent at absorbing information and asking questions before they allow their emotions and impulses to take over. By being mindful we can move from being reactive to being responsive. When we’re responsive we’re able to make the best decisions and we can find ourselves being proactive more often instead of being reactive, which is a slippery slope. When it comes to creating a culture of intention in a team or organization here are a couple of tips as well 1. Be consistent Cultivating intention requires consistency from leadership. Creating a culture that eliminates micro-management allows a leader to trust their employees to be intentional with their decision making. Since results from decisions can, and often are, different than we expect, it’s important to let our teams know that the intention behind the decision-making process is of utmost importance. 2. Eliminate Excuses and Yes People Intention requires courage and for effective leadership we need our team to be able to move and act with courage to be proactive. Very few things are more dangerous to a business or team than excuse making and people who are acting out of fear instead of being intentional when sharing their thoughts. The most successful businesspeople in the world are rarely the smartest person in the room. Be sure to encourage a culture of accountability and discourse to build a team that is intentional and proactive. How do you cultivate intention in your life or for your teams? 3 Tricks to Hosting an Amazing Event

Entrepreneur Mastery Lab - 3 Tricks to Hosting an Amazing Event

It can be great to go to an event and meet wonderful people, network, and find ways to grow your business. Some of the best relationships can be built this way, just ask many of our podcast guests how we connected originally! Other times events can fall short. Given time most professionals will consider hosting their own events. If you’re at this point and you want to do it right, we have 3 tricks that will help you host an amazing event! 6 Methods To Make Sure Your Business Doesn’t Fail Before we discuss our tips, did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you and you can access it right here. #1 Give more lead time than you think you need Events have a way of coming on fast. If you think you need 3 weeks to get an event together, plan on 5-6. Optimism bias is very real and very dangerous when you’re trying to host an event. Don’t get caught unprepared for all the moving pieces and coordination involved with event hosting. #2 You need to manage the venue We’d love to say that venues have their ducks in a row when it comes to event hosting, but you’d be surprised by how often venues drop the ball before or during events.  Do not assume the venue will be a rockstar at event management.  Take ownership of this or face the consequences. #3 Have a follow up plan Do you know the worst thing you can do when it comes to running an event? 100% not having a follow up plan. The event is being held for a reason and if you want to make the most of your time energy and resources you need to have a thoughtful and ready to roll follow up plan. Do this and even small events can have tremendous results! Do you need help with growing your business through events? Let us know in our private Facebook community, the EML! You can join here! 3 Tips To Being More Intentional When You Network

Entrepreneur Mastery Lab - 3 Tips To Being More Intentional in Networkingg

Networking and referrals can easily mean the difference between a thriving business and someone barely scraping by. However, networking can be time consuming. For most of us, getting a better return on our time is an ongoing goal that we are constantly working on. The good news is, most of us can get a lot better at networking, yours truly included! Here are 3 tips to keep in mind to be more intentional when you network so you can get more impact out of your time spent meeting others! If you’re already out there networking, you probably have seen and heard it all. The people who talk about themselves non-stop. That one person that hands out 1000 business cards like it’s monopoly money. The (shudder) people that try to sell you on something before they even know you or know if you’re a prospect. Networking can suck sometimes. It can also be highly effective if it’s done correctly. Here’s some ways to be more intentional and more effective at you networking.  As we like to say… “Pay Attention to Intention. Tip 1: Be intentional with your questions   There are a lot of great questions to ask networking, ‘what do you do for work?’ is not really one of them. Yes, it might give you some information about someone, but it isn’t going to open someone up the way many other questions can and will. Someone is always going to share what they do when prompted, but a better question might be ‘can you share what you do and why you decided to do it?’ At least this way you’ll get someone to really stop and think for a moment. That’ll help them remember you and it’ll help you learn some details you might not otherwise have learned. Also read: Finding and developing context in your conversations and Asking the right questions Tip 2 – Be intentional with how you listen   Someone says something to you. You listen and you respond back. They listen and they respond back. This is communication. Except…except often what someone says and what they meant are two different things. And then of course, what’s said and what’s heard are often two different things. It’s normal to struggle with listening, we are naturally going to try to focus on what we want to say. Getting intentional with listening will change the way everyone around you views you, positively. Be intentional and listen carefully! Best way to do it? Repeat what somebody said to you to make sure you heard it correctly and to make sure they said it correctly! Also read: Top Tips To Excel At Active Listening Tip 3 –  Give intentionally Going into networking events with the mindset of giving is very different than most attendees. Most attendees will only go into networking trying to get. If you go in with the intention of giving you will positively help someone. When you help someone, they like you and are more likely to help you. Do this enough and you’ll experience 10x or 100x the return of someone who is only looking to ‘get’ from a networking event! 3 Viral Tips to Master Post Covid, In Person Networking

Entrepreneur Mastery Lab - Post Covid In Person Networking

Congratulations! You’re ready to get back out there, things are opening back up and it’s time to dust off the shoes and get back to in person networking. There’s only one problem. The rules have changed! Here are 3 Viral tips you can use to master networking in a post-covid world! Before we discuss our tips, did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you you can access it right here. To catch this blog and more on audio or video you can check out our most recent podcast here where we add some color and detail to our tips below! If you prefer you can also check it out on our Youtube channel right here! 1. Be Prepared   There’s more to think about today than in the past. Our first tip is simple but effective, and will protect you against getting shut out or shut down for in person events. Some of the best ways to be prepared are to have a copy of your vaccination card handy, carry a mask (ideally, 2) and consider carrying a travel size purell or anti-bacterial wipes with you. A little preparation will bring you a LONG way when it comes to networking post-covid. 2. Say Hello, the right way   In the past if we showed up to a networking event and introduced ourselves to someone without a handshake….you dropped the ball. This would be even worse than a dead-fish handshake. Today, we need to think twice. Plenty of people were, in the closet, privately, against shaking hands PRE covid. Now that we’ve worked through a pandemic there are a ton of people who have no interest in shaking your hand. It’s in our best interest to ask each other how we’d like to be greeted with a handshake, fist bump, elbow bump or simply a polite hello. Following this one tip will help make us all more comfortable together and indicate a sign of respect for the person we’re meeting. 3. Be Strategic   One of our favorite aspects of networking post covid is the amount of data we have ahead of time. Nowadays it’s tough to find a networking event that doesn’t have a meet up, social media event, RSVP list, etc. Today more than ever we can find out ahead of time who is going to an event and who is likely to be there. It means we can be more strategic in our goals, our activity and the type of person we want to see at a networking event. Shotgun blast networking isn’t nearly as effective as intentional networking where we walk away with a strong introduction to just a couple to a handful of people that can help us achieve our goals. Be strategic and be more effective! Entrepreneur Mastery Lab We love sharing tips like these in our Entrepreneur Mastery Lab private community.
