Getting creative: Turning nothing into something

Our mindset is critical to our success in business especially when we are going to be faced with rejection, and an untold number of challenges throughout the journey. Often we look at challenges as obstacles, speedbumps, detours or outright rejection while we could be looking at them as opportunities, chances to pivot and avenues to refine. In order to take something negative and turn it positive, one of the best things we can do is to get creative. In this blog we’re going to discuss how we can work on getting creative so we can turn something into nothing. Speaking of creativity! We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you. Access it here! What are the simplest tips out there to get more creative and turn nothing into something? Get past the symptom When we’re dealing with challenges, especially from our prospects and future clients, we don’t typically have the underlying issues stated up front. Instead, what we get is symptoms. Most people will do their best to solve a symptom, but if you do that you’re not necessarily helping the prospect and you’re definitely not helping yourself (unless your offer is simply to alleviate symptoms)! It is crucial to get past the symptom to figure out what is really going on. If you can do that and start to solve for that you will be well on your way to turning nothing into something! Sometimes this requires creative thinking and question asking. Don’t be afraid to get creative to get past the symptoms! Have the client address the impact Although we want to wave a magic wand for our clients it’s far more effective for them to wave the wand. Client’s take action much more quickly when they are the one that is reasoning through the why. The best way to accomplish this is to have a client fully share how fixing an underlying problem will impact their lives. They will end up moving themselves forward towards a solution. This means getting creative and not working off a script. Every individual situation is different and requires creative problem solving. Be transparent There is no reason to fit a square peg into a round hole. It just won’t work and will hurt more than it helps. By being transparent with people you help them understand that you’re coming from a place of partnership and guidance and not from a place of manipulation. When you incorporate all three of these tips it’s very easy to take nothing and turn it into something. By approaching prospect engagements in this way you’ll have provided more value than 99% of competitors in your respective industries. Regardless of whether you can provide a solution you have earned the right to ask for SOMETHING. What can you ask for? Be creative. Ask for referrals, reviews, testimonials…whatever you need. Remember, you earned it! How have you turned nothing into something? Let us know your thoughts, you can email us at info@jbandthedoctor.com! Stress is perfectly normal and under the right conditions an extremely helpful mental state. We’d argue that stress, in the right doses, is vital to a healthy and happy life. Stress helps motivate us, helps us overcome challenges, and rise to the demands in our lives. Healthy stress is acute stress, as in we feel stress at certain points and times, it is a reaction to an incident or a moment. Chronic stress, stress that we feel all the time, is what we’d define as unhealthy stress. Chronic stress can lead to several mental health issues and impair our ability to thrive. It’s our free gift to you. Access it here! While anyone could be at risk for chronic stress, we often find that professionals and entrepreneurs are at a higher risk level to experience chronic stress during their lives. While several factors may contribute to this here are a few of the common causes that professionals and entrepreneurs experience that may lead to chronic stress: Work insecurity Money concerns Lack of community Self-doubt Any or all of these causes can create chronic stress. If you’re experiencing any of these you may want to be on the lookout for some common symptoms of chronic stress. What are some of the most common signs of chronic stress? 1. Decreased Energy Stress is a reaction that is supposed to prepare us for something. In other words, our body and our minds get us ready to handle whatever life is throwing our way. When we experience chronic stress, however, we tend to find that we have a decreased level of overall energy. In other words, chronic stress creates the exact opposite response that we’d normally achieve with healthy or acute stress. 2. Physical Symptoms Chronic stress can lead to physical symptoms such as hypertension, digestive issues, increased likelihood of illness and falling sick. If you find yourself experiencing a few physical symptoms on a regular basis you may be exhibiting signs of chronic stress. 3. Mental Changes Chronic stress may lead to changes in the way the brain functions. These changes in the brain may lead to anxiety, depression and addiction. When we consider the symptoms of chronic stress, the impact becomes glaring and concerning. Chronic stress can have a significant role in our mental and physical well being and can impact all areas of our lives. Luckily there are practical ways we can manage our stress. Play Believe it or not, playing and having fun can seriously reduce stress levels. While work can be stressful and life does not always seem fun, if we make a conscious effort to enjoy ourselves, we can really make a difference on our stress levels. Meditate Practicing mindfulness and staying present can help reduce stress levels by helping us maintain a health perspective and keep ourselves grounded in the moment. It is easy to create stress by getting stuck thinking about the past or worrying about the future. When we get better at staying present, we can greatly reduce the impact of stress on our lives. Meditation is a great vehicle to learn to be more mindful and to stay present. Get Outdoors Nature has been scientifically proven to help reduce stress levels. If you’re experiencing chronic stress make it a point to get outside at least a few times a day for 5-15 minutes. The exposure to sunlight and nature can have a wonderful influence on our mental health and wellbeing. Overall, chronic stress is a real risk we face as professionals and entrepreneurs. Why It’s Important to Address Failure Directly

Failure is inevitable and it’s not a bad thing. We look at failure as a negative and yet, in the grand experiment that is life and business, failure is an absolute certainty. Everyone experiences failure and it’s often the best learning experience for us. Failure can be the best teacher and should be embraced. In this blog we’ll discuss why it’s so important to address failure directly. Don’t fail to check out our free giveaway for you! We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you. Access it here! Failure Does Not Mean Fault Failure and fault are two different things that we commonly lump together. Oh, something failed so whomever was responsible for that failure must be at fault. Yet that is rarely the case. If there is a failure, the statistics suggest that rarely is any single individual at fault (think less than 10% of the time). Failure is an opportunity to fix something broken, not an opportunity to assign blame and fault. Failure Helps Us Get Better There are different types of failures and many of them deal with uncertainty and experimentation. In these instances, our failures help us correct to more predictable outcomes. In other words, these failures drive innovation. If the failure is a result of effort to improve, it can absolutely be a positive. It’s All About Perception People will trust you more if you’re open about your failures. Everyone knows we’re going to have them from time to time, and it’s about how you deal with them that is most important. By addressing failures head-on we can emphasize to anyone paying attention that we’re aware of the failure, will put energy and time into correcting for them in the future and that will help develop more trust than simply pretending we are perfect! How do you address your failures? Maintain Momentum by Writing Down Your Why

Momentum is an incredible thing. It makes achieving our goals easy! Seriously, who struggles to do something they are excited and passionate about? Absolutely no one, that’s who! When we struggle is at the point that we lose our passion and excitement. When we get knocked off track, our momentum is halted and we have to force ourselves to continue. That’s when grit kicks in. Grit is great but we prefer not to have to rely on grit until we absolutely must. We’d rather maintain momentum. If you want to maintain momentum one of the best ideas is to write down your ‘why’ and have it in front of you. Before you grab your pen and paper… did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you. Access it here! Why Write It Pen to paper remains one of the most effective ways for many of us to solidify something in memory. By writing down our why we’re forced not only to physically do something, but we also need to put thought into what we’re really trying to say. This practice forces us to really dig into our why and get to the true core of what’s important to us. What Having It in Front of You Does We’re going to lose steam. This is not an if, it’s a when. When we do, by having our ‘why’ immediately accessible and in front of us is going to be a trigger that brings us back to some of our original passion, excitement, and discomfort. All 3 of these emotions are great kick starters to taking action and regaining our momentum. It Creates Forced Perspective One of the most difficult challenges with goals is it can often feel like we’re not making progress. Having our why in front of us regularly forces us to take a look at what we’ve done. It drags our mind back through the work and the gains and the steps we have taken. In other words, it forces us to create perspective and get out of the mindset that we aren’t making progress. This is a powerful tool. Do you write down your ‘why’? 3 Hacks To Stop Defining Yourself By Your Work

It’s easy to identify ourselves with our work. It’s been hardwired into us culturally since we were kids. What do you want to be when you grow up? The answers are never father, sister, avid runner, etc, are they? No, they are policeman, teacher, fireman, astronaut and so on and so forth. The problem with identifying and defining yourself by your work is that work will end, and we are MUCH MORE than just our work. So, when someone asks what you do and you respond with; writer, accountant, attorney etc, then it might be time for you to consider these 3 hacks on how you can stop defining yourself by your work! 6 Methods To Make Sure Your Business Doesn’t Fail Before we pull back the curtain on identity and defining ourselves, did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you and you can access it right here. Hack #1 Don’t tell people WHAT YOU DO. When asked what you do, reply instead with WHO YOU ARE, or ask for clarity if they’d like to know what you do professionally or what you do for your hobbies or downtime. Although a small change this will help you rewire how you think about yourself. What we put out there becomes what we are! Hack #2 Stop objectifying yourself. In this instance, objectifying yourself means that you are distilling yourself down to one characteristic such as: I’m an entrepreneur, or, I’m a financial advisor. You are much more than that and by reducing yourself down to one simple thing you actively objectify yourself. Most of us won’t stand to see someone else being objectified, and it’s time for us to stop objectifying ourselves! Hack #3 Get away from it. Hustle culture is very real and can be quite toxic. If all you do is work and you never step away you’ll never really know if this is really who you want to be. Getting away and actually NOT WORKING when you get away allows you to find your center again. Your center is the place inside of you that is values and truth focused. It’s your beliefs and who you are. It will help you remember that you are much more than your work. Are you the type of person that could benefit from reshaping how you define yourself? The Best Ways To Recover From Burnout Quickly

75% of people admit to experiencing burnout. What most people don’t know is that recovery from burnout can last from 11 weeks to YEARS. If that’s the case it’s probably best to avoid burnout if possible and yet, if 3 out of 4 of us experience it, that may not be a real option. Today we look at the best ways to recover from burnout quickly so that we can get over it quickly and minimize the impact of burnout in our lives. 6 Methods To Make Sure Your Business Doesn’t Fail Before we discuss our tips, did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? It’s our free gift to you and you can access it right here. Ok, if burnout feels almost inevitable it’s time to deal with reducing the impact. Our focus here is to offer some of the most scientifically proven and effective ways to shorten the length of time it takes to recover from burnout. 1. Get outside Studies have consistently shown that getting outside reduces physical and psychological stress levels. If we’re burnt out, we should spend some time in nature. Generally, the more remote the better. 2. Exercise Exercise reduces stress levels and helps us get in a better frame of mind. This is essential for getting past burnout. By being smart and working out outdoors we can reduce stress even more. 3. Remember our why and be more impactful Getting back to why we got started in the first place will help you hit reset and recall the positive reasons you are working towards something. It will also help you recall the impact your work makes and help you focus in again on the impact. By creating impact, we recognize that we do as much for others as we do for ourselves. This is a tremendous way to help recover from burnout faster. This blog is inspired by our most recent BBB Live featuring special guest, Susan Block. Tips to Eliminate Limiting Beliefs

Limiting beliefs are the thoughts and conviction that act as our glass ceiling. They define what we can accomplish and achieve and their very structure brings us up short of our potential. We all deal with limiting beliefs at some point in our life and if you’re struggling with them now, we’ll offer you some very valuable tips to eliminate your limiting beliefs. Before going any further, did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together an absolutely FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our gift to you absolutely free and you can access it right here. Some of the most common limiting beliefs people have start with ‘I can’t’ or words like ‘never.’ Often the limiting beliefs and language people use is a reflection of fear and uncertainty in our lives. We will say words like ‘I can’t’ but what we are really saying is, I am too afraid of what is on the other side of this to actually (insert action). In our most recent podcast we discussed addressing fear. Fear and limiting beliefs go hand in hand. If you’re like many of our members of The Entrepreneur Mastery Lab community, you’re probably not afraid to admit that you deal with fear and your own limiting beliefs from time to time. To listen to our podcast you can check it out here! To join our awesome community of rockstars like yourself, request access here! Best of all, they are both free! Now, for what you have been waiting for… Here are some easy ways to eliminate limiting beliefs so you can help rise to mastery in whatever you choose to do! Figure out where they come from Most limiting beliefs are the result of an experience we have in our lives. It’s not unusual for negative experience to begin to define our belief systems and create a whole bunch of BS! If you’re struggling with a limiting belief, try to find out the root cause of the belief. There’s a lot of band aids we can use to help cope with limiting beliefs, and that’s ok, but we’re talking about attacking and eliminating these beliefs, not managing to them! Once you’ve identified the root cause, review the experience It’s been said that our experiences are a reflection of how we interpret what’s going on around us, not what is really happening. To stay on the safe side of the Doc and psychology buffs around the world I’m not going to stray too far out of my lane here. I do feel it’s safe to say that often our interpretation of something that happens is unique to us and we have a choice in how we interpret, react and respond to our experiences. If you can identify a root cause for an experience, congratulations! You now have the power to step away from your original interpretation of the experience and decide if there are other equally as, or more valid than your existing interpretation. And if you can do that, you’ll end up eliminating your limiting belief. Become a pessimist No, I don’t really want you to become a pessimist, but I do want you to consider what the absolute worst case scenario around your limiting belief is. What happens if I….(fill in the blanks). Our worst-case scenarios when we play them out aren’t nearly as bad as we build them up to be. By thoughtfully considering what the consequences of stepping beyond our limiting beliefs could be we can better examine whether these are as ‘bad’ as we originally gave them credit for. Once you have identified the worst-case scenario, then the fun starts and you can consider the best case scenario! The perspective should help break you free of some of your limiting beliefs and what’s holding you back from truly rising to mastery in your life! If you’re working on limiting beliefs and want to master your own belief systems even more, we can help. Managing to Results and Betrayal

You’ll hear coaches and sales leader say all the time to separate yourself from the results. In other words; it’s a numbers game, it’s not about you, don’t take it personally, you’re not being rejected only your offer is, remove yourself, distance yourself, etc and etc so on and so on. The personal saying I’ve used for many years is to ‘divorce’ yourself from the results. Truth bomb time. You cannot separate yourself from results, not completely, and you shouldn’t expect to be able to. Instead, you should manage to your results. Betrayal is the same. It’s something you can’t avoid. Sooner or later, you will take something personally and it will feel like a betrayal. If you’re not careful, betrayal can really sink your ship fast, and it’s why it’s so important to learn how to manage your results and betrayal. Betrayal was front and center in our podcast, The Entrepreneur Mastery Lab. In our most recent episode featuring Michael Buzinski betrayal came up and it was personal. Michael ended up shutting the doors of a multi-million-dollar company after experiencing epic level betrayal. Instead of letting it sink his ship, or more aptly, crash his plane, Buzz used it as inspiration to build a business more aligned with his values and his employees. Today he enjoys a thriving marketing business and is President and CMO of Buzzworthy Integrated Marketing. To hear more about how Buzz managed his emotions and the impact of betrayal you can listen in to our podcast here and don’t forget to like, subscribe, and give us a 5* review if you enjoy the episode! Why is it so important to manage our results and betrayal? Because we can’t ever separate ourselves from them. We can’t be emotionless when results aren’t what we want them to be. Every rejection is, to an extent, personal. It’s not like someone else is being rejected after all. This is your experience, and it is real. The old advice about divorcing yourself from the results? It’s not that it’s bad advice, we should be figuring out ways to handle negative results, it’s that it’s impossible. It is impossible to fully separate ourselves from negative results. If that is what you’re trying to do, it won’t get you to where you want to be. We need to manage our reaction to results. This is different than removing ourselves from the results. Think of results as data that we need to get better. Every failure, every rejection is an opportunity to learn and tweak what we are doing to achieve more success. As we love to say, it’s all just an experiment and failure is simply a result that we didn’t want or expect. By shifting our perspective here, we can start to manage to rejection. Rejection is something that we’ll still deal with, but we are going to start using tools that will make rejection more helpful. Your emotions will come into play here. Most people, when they experience poor results or rejection will deal with anxiety, imposter syndrome, fear, anger, frustration, and a whole lot of emotions we paint as ‘bad.’ Let’s get this straight. Emotions are neither bad nor good, they just are. We need to be able to acknowledge our emotions, allow ourselves to feel our emotions and then accept our emotions. In this way we can manage to our results and not try to remove ourselves from them. Again, removing ourselves from our results and emotions, that’s impossible. Managing to them is not! Back to betrayal. It will happen. We will feel betrayed. This is a result that nobody will ask for, but we will all experience. Betrayal and our response to it will determine whether we can step forward into our businesses or shrink away. If you experience betrayal, be like Buzz. Step up and out and use it as an inspiration to build something even greater and stronger. You’ll thank yourself later for it! If you’re struggling with your results, we can help. Affirmations or Ask-firmations how to make affirmations better

Popularized back in the ‘60s affirmations are something TONS of coaches, influencers and even psychologists will recommend their clients practice regularly. There’s science to back up the effectiveness of affirmations, too! After 60 years it’s worth asking, can we make affirmations better and the answer is, yes! Instead of a practice of affirmations, a practice of ask-firmations can make this practice even more effective. For those of us caught up in negative self-talk or looking to raise our self-esteem or create a more positive narrative of ourselves affirmations can be incredibly helpful. Research done in the 1980s as well as the last couple of decades shows the positive benefits of affirmations. They help to drive our self-identity and regular, consistent use of affirmations can shift how we think of ourselves. Talk about a powerful tool. After 60 years of popularity, it is worth exploring if simple affirmations can evolve and if we can level up the results we get from this practice. I first heard of ask-firmations from Coach Machen Macdonald, who joined us on our podcast. If you would like to hear him talk about ask-firmations you can head over to our podcasts here. Ask-firmations are another way of saying an affirmation. A traditional affirmation likely will have a clear formula of: Visualized and present tense, declarative sentences. For example: Today I am experiencing tremendous gratitude and am drawing my ideal clients to me. An ask-firmation on the other hand will rephrase this into a question formula: visualized and present tense, interrogative sentences. For example: How can I experience tremendous gratitude today and draw my ideal clients to me? Coach Machen isn’t the only one talking about ask-firmations, however. In one of my favorite sales books out there – To Sell Is Human, by Daniel H. Pink, Pink mentions the strength of ask-firmations. Both Coach Machen and Pink establish clear and logical rationale for an ask-firmation instead of an affirmation. Ultimately, affirmations are build me up declarations and ask-firmations are questions. The difference in how our brain reacts to being told vs being asked is immense. In sales, telling isn’t necessarily bad, but it’s not all that effective. The best sales tools use good questions. This is because people respond MUCH BETTER to questions than they do to being told. What’s true about other people is also true about us. Asking ourselves a question about how we are going to make our traditional affirmation happen, does something to our brains. It makes us problem solve! By asking ourselves a question we are much more likely to try to reason out ways we can achieve our affirmation. If our affirmation is to experience gratitude and draw clients to us, we will start thinking about HOW we can experience gratitude and in what ways can we help our clients find us. The difference can be startling, and we encourage you to try this methodology out. Run an experiment and see if it’s a change that benefits you.
