Why we lose momentum and how to avoid it!

Sometimes business is hard. If it was always easy, everyone would be successful and life would be quite boring, we’re sure. Regardless, we have never met someone that wanted to lose steam or momentum in their business or towards their goals, and, while there’s a ton of advice on how to maintain momentum we found that it’s useful to understand why we lose momentum, what causes it and how best to avoid the circumstances that lead to a loss of momentum. Now is the moment! We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you. Access it here! Why we lose momentum and how to avoid it: 1. Lack of goals and poor prioritization Nothing is more dangerous to our momentum than not having a sharp vision on what we want to accomplish and clarity on exactly what we need to execute on to accomplish it. Often, we find ourselves easily distracted, off target and working on urgent but not necessarily important items. By maintaining clear goals and emphasizing prioritization we can keep up our momentum for long periods of time. Avoid these triggers by regularly reviewing your goals and reviewing your priorities. We strongly encourage you to have annual (or greater) goals and priorities broken down by quarter, then by month, then by week and finally by day. It’s best to start with the bigger goals first (annual or greater) so that you retain focus on your greater vision for yourself and your business. 2. Burnout Burnout is very real and becoming more of an issue every year for professionals, especially in the United States. The millennial generation has even been described as ‘closet workaholics’ and is a great example of how we are unwilling to treat ourselves to vacations or truly step away from work. The challenge is without balance and without a chance to rest is it hurts us more than it helps us. Pushing ourselves to operate daily at 100% with no opportunity to step away is like revving an engine to the red and never shifting gears or taking your foot off the gas. It’s simply a recipe for disaster. To avoid burnout, we recommend maintaining a health work-life balance and prioritizing self-care. This means that when you create your priorities and goals in the first step you include self-care and personal time in your planning. It’s also helpful to review how and where you can either automate, delegate or outsource so you’re doing less and focusing your attention on the most important tasks and not just keeping busy. 3. Perfectionism Perfectionism is impossible but it doesn’t stop many of us striving towards it. Perfectionism and, also fear of failure can lead to procrastination or filling up time we wouldn’t otherwise fill up. One of the greatest ways to lose momentum is to self-sabotage by trying to be perfect. Perfection is one of the greatest stall tactics and destroys momentum. To avoid perfection, or fear of failure, remember that it is both unattainable and unnecessary. Focus on improvement, experimentation and execution and strive for greatness and mastery, not for perfection. Do this and you’ll be able to maintain serious momentum for good! Self Confidence and Self Efficacy: Why it’s so important for your business success

Belief in yourself is incredibly important in the hyper-competitive business environment that exists today. Business growth and success is never linear and self-confidence is essential to help support the grit and resiliency necessary to overcome challenges and obstacles. Self-efficacy, the belief in our ability to accomplish specific tasks is equally as important. Today, more than ever, we are equipped with tools to help enhance our self-efficacy and improve our odds of success. In our blog we’ll discuss why it’s so important to have self-confidence and self-efficacy to achieve business success. Believe in yourself and prepare! We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you. Access it here! So how are self-confidence and self-efficacy different? 1. General vs Acute Self-confidence is general in scope and self-efficacy is specific. I can be self-confident and have overall belief in my abilities and yet still lack self-efficacy when it comes to…managing other people, for example. Self-efficacy is specific to a goal or a task, self-confident is much broader in it’s scope. 2. Intrinsic vs Extrinsic Both self-confidence and self-efficacy could be considered intrinsic, as in, they are derived from internal sources such as previous success. In fact, self-confidence is often attributed to previous person success. Self-efficacy on the other hand can and often stems from external or extrinsic sources such as persuasion, other’s successes and our current mental states and mindsets whether or not they are influenced by the environment around us. For example, the backup quarterback that steps into a game in the 4th quarter and wins a game may be doing so due to the environment and support of his team around him IE: self-efficacy. 3. Behavior Setting We don’t necessarily set high goals or work harder due to self-confidence, but we likely will be due to self-efficacy. With great self-confidence we’re more likely to be brave and try something new. With self-efficacy we’re much more likely to set higher goals, work harder and be quicker to overcome adversity. So why are they both important to business success today? Find me a successful business lacking failure…and then find me a successful business that doesn’t have the resiliency and grit to overcome challenges, obstacles, and adversity. You need both to survive in today’s business world. It’s not enough to simply be just self-confident or have strong self-efficacy. We need to have a healthy balance of each to ensure the greatest odds of success! Also read: How to find and grow your confidence Tips To Build C onfidence Quickly How do you display self-efficacy? How To Become More Vulnerable

Vulnerability is shown to develop stronger relationships. Those of us that can practice vulnerability are able to overcome our bodies natural physiological response to the risk of opening ourselves up. Not only does it help develop our relationships with others, it allows us to strengthen the internal relationship we have with ourselves. In this blog we’ll explore some helpful tips that make us more comfortable with being vulnerable. Before we open up about vulnerability… did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you. Access it here! Be Brave It might sound silly, but vulnerability requires us to be brave. We’re doing something that leaves us open to attack and judgement and that’s not easy. If you’re struggling to be vulnerable, find some small ways you can be brave. Take it one small step at a time and given some consistency you’ll see great progress towards overcoming the fear and anxiety that often come from being vulnerable. Be Selective If vulnerability is something you struggle with then there are some great people to be vulnerable with and there are…others. By being selective with whom we share our vulnerability with we can help protect ourselves from our primary concerns and anxiety. Finding someone who is already able to express their emotions, is non-judgmental, and simply listens is a great starting point for being vulnerable. Practice Self Awareness Vulnerability requires us to be able to express our emotions, yet for many of us, understanding our emotions isn’t easy. Practicing self-awareness and becoming more aware of your emotions is an essential requirement to successfully developing comfort with vulnerability. Take stock in your emotions when you feel yourself reacting. Remember, feelings are often describe with a single word such as: anxious, attacked, defensive, scared, courageous, happy, sad, etc. How do you get vulnerable? How to Execute a Plan and Why it’s so Hard to do!

Big goals for 2023, am I right?! Most people don’t set small goals. After all, small goals don’t exactly feel like they will be life altering and exciting. Small goals certainly don’t equate to feeling like you won the lottery. When we develop big goals, the next step is to put a plan in place. Unfortunately, most people are terrible at executing on their plans and implementing them. In this blog we’ll share with you some tips on the best way to execute on a plan and why it’s so hard to do. 6 Methods To Make Sure Your Business Doesn’t Fail Before making any more plans, did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you and you can access it right here. Why is it so hard to execute on a plan Consistency and default behaviors are why we struggle here. Most of us fail to be consistent and this is a top reason why we can’t execute on our plans. Life happens and our consistency goes out the door. What’s really happening here is we are reverting to our default behaviors. Our brains don’t ever forget our defaults. They stay in the back of our minds, lurking and waiting like some creeper. When we get off track it’s natural for our brains to trigger our default modes and behaviors. Just like that, our plan can get off track. Since this is totally natural and impossible to eliminate, it’s very difficult to execute on a plan. Plan Execution, Tip 1 Review the actions that will help you achieve your plan. The only way to manage to our brains defaults is to be aware of when we start to go back to our old modalities and behaviors. The best way to keep up our defense is to review and stay hyper aware of what we need to do to execute on our plan. This means, constant and, yes, consistent review of our days to make sure we are staying on track. A compass works a lot better if we use it every day instead of every few weeks or months! Plan Execution, Tip 2 Embrace the boring. Yes, you read that right. A lot of the time, plan execution requires us to focus on basic and repetitive tasks. While most of us don’t thrive on repeating the same things over and over again with excellence, time and again history has proven that those of us that work the basics the best are the most likely to execute on achieving our larger plans and goals. Are you a rockstar at executing on plans? Let us know at info@jbandthedoctor.com! Finding Balance in the Holidays!

If we take the stance that work-life balance doesn’t exist and both blend together, especially during the holidays, it does beg the question: can you have balance during the holidays? We believe you can and want to offer a few tips on how you can find balance this holiday season! 6 Methods To Make Sure Your Business Doesn’t Fail Before achieving perfect holiday season balance, did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you and you can access it right here. Take Responsibility for your own Balance A lot of people think balance and think 50/50. That’s crazy! First, there is a whole lot more to balance than just 2 things in life! Secondly, balance is what we make of it. By understanding how and where we want to prioritize our focus we can really reduce stress by taking accountability for what we want to prioritize. If that’s 70% of our time on business, 10% on family, 20% on ourselves, that’s ok, just own it! Set Boundaries The holidays are a difficult time to set boundaries. There are a tremendous number of societal pressures and family pressures on hand during this season that we don’t normally face. For some of us there is considerable professional pressure as well. Setting boundaries up front will help communicate our priorities to the people around us and stave off some of the conflict that comes from differing priorities. Find Perspective and Empathy Balance in the holiday season means being aware of more than our own situations and challenges. Almost without exception, everyone is dealing with the burden of additional stress during this time of year. Remembering to step outside of your own shoes will do wonders for many of us to help experience gratitude and fulfillment during the holiday season. How do you find balance during the holidays? How To Say No

Do you struggle with saying no? It’s a common issue for many people. Especially if you are being asked by people you don’t want to disappoint! For those of you that can use some help let’s dive into a few ways you can improve on and learn how to say no! 6 Methods To Make Sure Your Business Doesn’t Fail Before we go into saying ‘no,’ did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you and you can access it right here. Set Boundaries Up Front A great challenge with saying no is it feels like we’re rejecting someone else. One of the easiest ways to avoid this is to set boundaries early and up front. That way if you need to say ‘no,’ you have already communicated what your boundaries are and use those as a mutually understood reason. Don’t Try to Explain Saying no is hard. It can come with a need to explain as well. To get better at saying ‘no,’ do it quickly, cleanly and don’t try to explain. It usually is unnecessary. Keeping to a short and simple ‘no’ will make it easier than also trying to come up with an explanation. Ask For Time to Decide When someone asks you something you want to say ‘no’ to, we can often feel pressure to respond immediately. By changing your default response to ‘let me think about it,’ you give yourself the chance to really make a better decision and be thoughtful in your response. 3 Reasons to Use Acting in Business

We hear a lot about authenticity, and we are big believers in being yourself. However, there are instances where we need to act, or play a role in our business to be successful. That is not just, ok, we should embrace it! Here are 3 great reasons to use acting in business! Reason 1: You need to build a culture Great businesses care about their employees not just their customers. For a business to have a strong and healthy team, it needs a culture and value system that the employees can get behind. Sometimes when a business leader needs to develop a culture, they need to take a leadership role and act in line with the community values even if it’s not in line with the leaders wants. This is a great example of needing to take on the role of leader and act in a way consistent with company values and culture. Reason 2: It’s about everyone else Great leaders recognize that having a customer centric business is essential to success. We need to be able to meet customer needs and make life easier on our customers. Sometimes that means we need to act in a way that disarms our customers. Acting in this way is providing a service for your customers since you’re helping them make a decision that solves their problems. The platinum rule is to treat others the way they want to be treated, not the way you want to treat them. Reason 3: Full honesty may cause friction We are strong believers in honesty. However, we also believe strongly in not always talking. Sometimes the right decision is to say nothing at all or to guard our words. Blunt honesty is a great virtue but it’s something few people respond to well. In instances where a little tact and compassion can go a long way, it’s often in our best interest to act if we’re debating between blunt criticism and/or honesty and a more compassionate response. How to Deal With Uncertainty

Uncertainty is always going to be there. At times we don’t even notice it, at other times it’s impossible to ignore. Dealing with uncertainty can be challenging for a number of reasons, but it’s important to make sure we are prepared so when uncertainty does pop up, we don’t allow it to throw us off track. In this blog we’ll offer some wisdom on some of the best ways to deal with uncertainty to minimize it’s impact. 6 Methods To Make Sure Your Business Doesn’t Fail Hold on! Did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you and you can access it right here. Uncertainty Hack #1 Step back from what’s causing the uncertainty. Perspective is a great way to remove ourselves from emotional responses and when we deal with uncertainty we are often dealing with our own, or others emotions. Step back, create perspective and you’ll often find that the uncertainty is not necessarily as impactful as you were worried it would be. Uncertainty Hack #2 Plan for the uncertainty. Plan for the worst so that the worst isn’t as bad as it could be. When we have a plan in place for uncertainty it allows us to have a response ready to go. Being able to take action during uncertainty is a fantastic way to minimize the impact of uncertainty in our lives and our business. Uncertainty Hack #3 Know your coping strategies. We all cope with things differently. When uncertainty starts to creep up it may be time to implement one of your coping strategies. This could be self-care, working out, meditation, vacation, therapy or any number of outlets. Find what works best for you and don’t delay. Are you struggling with uncertainty? Managing behavior virtually

Managing behavior is one of the primary skill sets a service based professional and entrepreneur must become scary good at. Between managing our own behavior and reactions and managing our clients it is an essential skill to develop and continuously hone, or, as we like to say, sharpen the ax. Managing behavior can be even more difficult when we are virtual since it’s much harder to relay body language and read other’s body language. Here are some of the top tips we have for managing behavior virtually. Tip 1 Managing behavior online requires focus and attention. It’s best if both parties on any virtual engagement are able and willing to silence some common distractors. Make sure you set your phone to focus mode, silence notifications from your email and other browsers (close them if you must) and ask that whomever you’re meeting with do the same. Setting the stage up front to reduce distractions will make it much easier to manage behavior when virtual. Tip 2 Ask twice respond once! The old adage goes measure twice, cut once and it is even more important when virtual. Since we are much more limited in our ability to read body language online it becomes crucial to make sure what is being said is what is meant to be communicated and that what is being heard is what was actually said. Check in with people even more regularly than you would while virtual will help make sure the communication between yourself and the other party is as effective as possible. Tip 3 Some things do not translate online. There are certain conversations and topics that are highly sensitive in nature. Some of these conversations simply do not play well online and if the goal is to manage reactions, they should not take place virtually if you have any control over it. It’s like having a conversation when driving a car. If you need to make eye contact for that conversation, the car is an awful place to chat. You can still do it, but be prepared for less than ideal results. The same goes for online conversations. Some are just better in person. Do you need to get better virtually?
