Reflection – Do’s and Don’ts to get the best results!

Reflection allows us to enhance our decision making, gain clarity on our future goals and identify opportunities for improvement in our process and our behaviors. It’s a crucial skill to develop if your aim is to achieve the best possible results. But if you’re going to do it, you want to do it in a way that will help you achieve the very best results and returns for the time spent. In this blog we’ll discuss reflection and what you should do and should avoid to get the very best results. If you’re reflecting… we have a tool that may be useful! We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you. Access it here! So what is reflection and what are the main do’s and don’ts you should be aware of? Reflection Reflection is a tool to help make more informed decisions in the future. To reflect we must carefully analyze and review our past decisions, experiences and behaviors and then review the outcomes to gain better insight and understanding. It’s a phenomenal tool to assist in continuous innovation and improvement. The Do’s of reflection Just like there are things we should do during reflection there are things we shouldn’t! Take care to avoid doing these three things! Self-criticism Although it’s easy to beat ourselves up over poor decisions or outcomes we didn’t want, it’s more self-sabotaging then effective during reflection. Avoid being overly critical and try to remain objective to get the most from your reflection. Rush Reflection takes time and we should be deliberate in the process. Rushing through reflection will seriously handicap the results you can expect from the exercise. Fall prey to confirmation bias A dangerous habit many people (especially those that are most introspective) fall into is confirmation bias. It’s common for us to want to cherry pick information that conforms to a result we want to have. Be as objective as possible during reflection to avoid this bias! Reflection is yet another skill that every professional and business owner should take time to refine. It will help inform better decisions in the future and force a state of improvement and innovation. What have your experiences with reflection been like? Self Confidence and Self Efficacy: Why it’s so important for your business success

Belief in yourself is incredibly important in the hyper-competitive business environment that exists today. Business growth and success is never linear and self-confidence is essential to help support the grit and resiliency necessary to overcome challenges and obstacles. Self-efficacy, the belief in our ability to accomplish specific tasks is equally as important. Today, more than ever, we are equipped with tools to help enhance our self-efficacy and improve our odds of success. In our blog we’ll discuss why it’s so important to have self-confidence and self-efficacy to achieve business success. Believe in yourself and prepare! We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you. Access it here! So how are self-confidence and self-efficacy different? 1. General vs Acute Self-confidence is general in scope and self-efficacy is specific. I can be self-confident and have overall belief in my abilities and yet still lack self-efficacy when it comes to…managing other people, for example. Self-efficacy is specific to a goal or a task, self-confident is much broader in it’s scope. 2. Intrinsic vs Extrinsic Both self-confidence and self-efficacy could be considered intrinsic, as in, they are derived from internal sources such as previous success. In fact, self-confidence is often attributed to previous person success. Self-efficacy on the other hand can and often stems from external or extrinsic sources such as persuasion, other’s successes and our current mental states and mindsets whether or not they are influenced by the environment around us. For example, the backup quarterback that steps into a game in the 4th quarter and wins a game may be doing so due to the environment and support of his team around him IE: self-efficacy. 3. Behavior Setting We don’t necessarily set high goals or work harder due to self-confidence, but we likely will be due to self-efficacy. With great self-confidence we’re more likely to be brave and try something new. With self-efficacy we’re much more likely to set higher goals, work harder and be quicker to overcome adversity. So why are they both important to business success today? Find me a successful business lacking failure…and then find me a successful business that doesn’t have the resiliency and grit to overcome challenges, obstacles, and adversity. You need both to survive in today’s business world. It’s not enough to simply be just self-confident or have strong self-efficacy. We need to have a healthy balance of each to ensure the greatest odds of success! Also read: How to find and grow your confidence Tips To Build C onfidence Quickly How do you display self-efficacy? Recognize the Signs: The Impact of Chronic Stress

Stress is perfectly normal and under the right conditions an extremely helpful mental state. We’d argue that stress, in the right doses, is vital to a healthy and happy life. Stress helps motivate us, helps us overcome challenges, and rise to the demands in our lives. Healthy stress is acute stress, as in we feel stress at certain points and times, it is a reaction to an incident or a moment. Chronic stress, stress that we feel all the time, is what we’d define as unhealthy stress. Chronic stress can lead to several mental health issues and impair our ability to thrive. In today’s blog we’ll discuss how to recognize the signs of chronic stress, the impact of chronic stress and some practical ways we can manage stress for greater mental wellness. Don’t stress! We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you. Access it here! While anyone could be at risk for chronic stress, we often find that professionals and entrepreneurs are at a higher risk level to experience chronic stress during their lives. While several factors may contribute to this here are a few of the common causes that professionals and entrepreneurs experience that may lead to chronic stress: Work insecurity Money concerns Lack of community Self-doubt Any or all of these causes can create chronic stress. If you’re experiencing any of these you may want to be on the lookout for some common symptoms of chronic stress. What are some of the most common signs of chronic stress? 1. Decreased Energy Stress is a reaction that is supposed to prepare us for something. In other words, our body and our minds get us ready to handle whatever life is throwing our way. When we experience chronic stress, however, we tend to find that we have a decreased level of overall energy. In other words, chronic stress creates the exact opposite response that we’d normally achieve with healthy or acute stress. 2. Physical Symptoms Chronic stress can lead to physical symptoms such as hypertension, digestive issues, increased likelihood of illness and falling sick. If you find yourself experiencing a few physical symptoms on a regular basis you may be exhibiting signs of chronic stress. 3. Mental Changes Chronic stress may lead to changes in the way the brain functions. These changes in the brain may lead to anxiety, depression and addiction. When we consider the symptoms of chronic stress, the impact becomes glaring and concerning. Chronic stress can have a significant role in our mental and physical well being and can impact all areas of our lives. Luckily there are practical ways we can manage our stress. Play Believe it or not, playing and having fun can seriously reduce stress levels. While work can be stressful and life does not always seem fun, if we make a conscious effort to enjoy ourselves, we can really make a difference on our stress levels. Meditate Practicing mindfulness and staying present can help reduce stress levels by helping us maintain a health perspective and keep ourselves grounded in the moment. It is easy to create stress by getting stuck thinking about the past or worrying about the future. When we get better at staying present, we can greatly reduce the impact of stress on our lives. Meditation is a great vehicle to learn to be more mindful and to stay present. Get Outdoors Nature has been scientifically proven to help reduce stress levels. If you’re experiencing chronic stress make it a point to get outside at least a few times a day for 5-15 minutes. The exposure to sunlight and nature can have a wonderful influence on our mental health and wellbeing. Overall, chronic stress is a real risk we face as professionals and entrepreneurs. By acknowledging the common causes of chronic stress, identifying the symptoms to be on the look-out for and having some actionable and practice methods to manage stress we can position and defend ourselves against the risks of stress and poor mental health. Self-Awareness: Do You Have It?

We’d all like to believe we have a tremendous amount of self-awareness. It’s hard to find someone that believes they aren’t self-aware. Yet it’s also hard to find individuals that can honestly say they have spent any time being trained on how to develop self-awareness or who have dedicated extensive time into the practice of self-awareness. What’s worse research has shown, introspection doesn’t necessarily lead to better self-awareness at all and it can actually hurt us! When it comes to self-awareness, the real question is, do you have it? Are you aware that we have a free gift that you may be interested in! We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you. Access it here! 95% of us believe we are self-aware. Yet, studies suggest only 15% of us actually are! Chances are we are completely unaware of just how unaware we are (yes we understand the irony in this)! More than that, we tend to lie to ourselves about whether we’re lying to ourselves. In other words, we don’t want to admit that we aren’t aware even though we kind of understand that we’re not all that aware in the first place. Self-awareness is a skill that can be taught and developed. For some of us, a small percentage, we naturally have a high level of self-awareness. Like professional athletes, a very small percentage of us have exceptional self-awareness. The difference is, many of us grow up learning about sports, practicing and devoting substantial time to developing physical athleticism. Rarely do we find that people spend any sort of time developing their awareness to the same extend they might develop skills such as throwing a baseball or shooting a basketball. Somebody who never spent time throwing a baseball very obviously can see that they aren’t very good at throwing a ball. People who never spent time developing self-awareness, unfortunately, have no idea that they aren’t good at it. They’re blind to it, typically. It’s why we consider awareness one of the most under emphasized skills for professionals today and one of our core skills we believe every professional and entrepreneur should focus on! How To Say No

Do you struggle with saying no? It’s a common issue for many people. Especially if you are being asked by people you don’t want to disappoint! For those of you that can use some help let’s dive into a few ways you can improve on and learn how to say no! 6 Methods To Make Sure Your Business Doesn’t Fail Before we go into saying ‘no,’ did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you and you can access it right here. Set Boundaries Up Front A great challenge with saying no is it feels like we’re rejecting someone else. One of the easiest ways to avoid this is to set boundaries early and up front. That way if you need to say ‘no,’ you have already communicated what your boundaries are and use those as a mutually understood reason. Don’t Try to Explain Saying no is hard. It can come with a need to explain as well. To get better at saying ‘no,’ do it quickly, cleanly and don’t try to explain. It usually is unnecessary. Keeping to a short and simple ‘no’ will make it easier than also trying to come up with an explanation. Ask For Time to Decide When someone asks you something you want to say ‘no’ to, we can often feel pressure to respond immediately. By changing your default response to ‘let me think about it,’ you give yourself the chance to really make a better decision and be thoughtful in your response. How to Deal With Uncertainty

Uncertainty is always going to be there. At times we don’t even notice it, at other times it’s impossible to ignore. Dealing with uncertainty can be challenging for a number of reasons, but it’s important to make sure we are prepared so when uncertainty does pop up, we don’t allow it to throw us off track. In this blog we’ll offer some wisdom on some of the best ways to deal with uncertainty to minimize it’s impact. 6 Methods To Make Sure Your Business Doesn’t Fail Hold on! Did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you and you can access it right here. Uncertainty Hack #1 Step back from what’s causing the uncertainty. Perspective is a great way to remove ourselves from emotional responses and when we deal with uncertainty we are often dealing with our own, or others emotions. Step back, create perspective and you’ll often find that the uncertainty is not necessarily as impactful as you were worried it would be. Uncertainty Hack #2 Plan for the uncertainty. Plan for the worst so that the worst isn’t as bad as it could be. When we have a plan in place for uncertainty it allows us to have a response ready to go. Being able to take action during uncertainty is a fantastic way to minimize the impact of uncertainty in our lives and our business. Uncertainty Hack #3 Know your coping strategies. We all cope with things differently. When uncertainty starts to creep up it may be time to implement one of your coping strategies. This could be self-care, working out, meditation, vacation, therapy or any number of outlets. Find what works best for you and don’t delay. Are you struggling with uncertainty? 3 Hacks To Stop Defining Yourself By Your Work

It’s easy to identify ourselves with our work. It’s been hardwired into us culturally since we were kids. What do you want to be when you grow up? The answers are never father, sister, avid runner, etc, are they? No, they are policeman, teacher, fireman, astronaut and so on and so forth. The problem with identifying and defining yourself by your work is that work will end, and we are MUCH MORE than just our work. So, when someone asks what you do and you respond with; writer, accountant, attorney etc, then it might be time for you to consider these 3 hacks on how you can stop defining yourself by your work! 6 Methods To Make Sure Your Business Doesn’t Fail Before we pull back the curtain on identity and defining ourselves, did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? We put together a FREE guide identifying the Top 6 reasons businesses fail and give you actionable steps you can take on every one of these to make sure it’s your competition failing and not you! It’s our free gift to you and you can access it right here. Hack #1 Don’t tell people WHAT YOU DO. When asked what you do, reply instead with WHO YOU ARE, or ask for clarity if they’d like to know what you do professionally or what you do for your hobbies or downtime. Although a small change this will help you rewire how you think about yourself. What we put out there becomes what we are! Hack #2 Stop objectifying yourself. In this instance, objectifying yourself means that you are distilling yourself down to one characteristic such as: I’m an entrepreneur, or, I’m a financial advisor. You are much more than that and by reducing yourself down to one simple thing you actively objectify yourself. Most of us won’t stand to see someone else being objectified, and it’s time for us to stop objectifying ourselves! Hack #3 Get away from it. Hustle culture is very real and can be quite toxic. If all you do is work and you never step away you’ll never really know if this is really who you want to be. Getting away and actually NOT WORKING when you get away allows you to find your center again. Your center is the place inside of you that is values and truth focused. It’s your beliefs and who you are. It will help you remember that you are much more than your work. Are you the type of person that could benefit from reshaping how you define yourself? Consistency Makes You Elite, Here’s Why!

Kobe Bryant will go down as one of the most electrifying basketball players of all time. He’s got his own Mamba Mindset which has transcended his death and inspires people daily! Kobe was known for his refusal to quit and his willingness to put in the effort. Although a superstar, Bryant still practiced 6 hours a day and wouldn’t quit practice until he had made 400 shots. He was typically the first player in the gym. Kobe earned his elite status, and he did it through consistency. Consistency will make you elite and in the rest of the blog we’ll explain why! 6 Methods To Make Sure Your Business Doesn’t Fail As always, before we chat consistency, did you know that 70% of businesses will fail? It’s our free gift to you and you can access it right here. Here’s our top reasons why consistency will make you elite! The Motions Become Second Nature In professional athletes, practice is easy to see. We see the same consistent swings, throws, catches, movements, and we see the results, typically in the moment itself. In business, practice isn’t so easy to see. The truth is, most professionals and businesses don’t practice at all. They just start swinging, throwing, and catching, or the business equivalent. But practice is essential. To knowing your messaging, to your brand, to your presentations and elevator pitches all the way to objection handling. The only way to make these business movements second nature is by consistently practicing. You do this and you’ll never stumble over your value, your services or your prospect objections again. Consistency Sets Expectations and Comfort Do you love Starbucks or Dunkin’ Donuts? Do you find yourself consistently going back? Whether you love them or not, there’s a good chance you go back to one or the other consistently. The reason? They have set your expectations and they consistently meet them! You may not love either of them but chances are, if there is a coffee shop you’re going to stop at you’re likely to choose one over the other. That reason has more to do with consistency than you’d expect. Elite businesses and elite professionals practice consistency to provide a customer experience that customers can depend on. When people can depend on you to do what you say on a regular basis, this creates comfort. What do we all crave and enjoy? Comfort! Want to become more consistent?
